Bahamas Tariff/Duty Rate Changes, Effective July 1st, 2026

Summary of the Tariff (Amendment) Act, 2026

The Bahamas Government has passed the Tariff (Amendment) Act, 2026, introducing several changes to duty rates, tariff classifications, and article descriptions that will take effect on July 1st, 2026. These updates impact a variety of commonly imported products and are important for customs brokers, couriers, and importers who rely on accurate tariff search results and customs duty rates when processing shipments.

Below is a summary of the most significant changes.

Reduced Duty Rates on Dried Fruits and Nut Mixtures

Several dried fruit tariff codes have received duty rate reductions aimed at lowering the cost of certain food imports.

The duty rate for tariff codes 0813.1010, 0813.2010, 0813.3010, 0813.4010, and 0813.5010 has been reduced from 5% to Duty Free. These classifications include unpackaged apricots, prunes, apples, other dried fruits, and unpackaged mixtures of nuts and dried fruits.

In addition, the duty rate for tariff codes 0813.1090, 0813.3090, 0813.4090, and 0813.5090 has been reduced from 35% to 5%, significantly lowering customs duty rates on packaged or other forms of these products.

Plastic Kitchenware Receives Major Duty Reduction

Importers of plastic tableware and kitchenware will see a substantial reduction in duty rates.

Tariff code 3924.1090 (Other Tableware and Kitchenware of Plastic) has been reduced from 45% to 20%, decreasing the landed cost of many household plastic products.

Roofing Product Classification Updated

Chapter 39 includes an important tariff classification change for roofing materials.

Tariff code 3925.9040, previously described as "Roofing in Rolls", has been reassigned to "Pavi Panel Shingles". A new tariff code, 3925.9050, has been created for "Roofing in Rolls". Both classifications remain duty free.

Tablecloths and Serviettes Become Duty Free

A notable reduction has been introduced for paper table products.

Tariff code 4818.3000 (Tablecloths and Serviettes) has been reduced from 45% to Duty Free, representing one of the largest duty reductions included in the amendment.

Changes to Wig Classifications and Duty Rates

Several changes have been made to Chapter 67 to distinguish wigs from other false hair types.

The duty rate for tariff code 6704.1100 (Complete Wigs of Synthetic Textile Materials) has been reduced from 45% to 20%.

Two new tariff codes have also been introduced:

  • 6704.2020 – Complete Wigs (Human Hair) – 20%
  • 6704.9020 – Complete Wigs (Other Materials) – 20%

To accommodate these additions, the term "wigs" has been removed from the article descriptions for tariff codes 6704.2010 and 6704.9010, which now apply only to false beards, eyebrows, eyelashes, switches, and similar articles.

New Duty-Free Classification for Accessibility Equipment

A new tariff code has been added for accessibility-related equipment.

Tariff code 8428.6010 covers Chair-Lifts Designed for Persons with Disabilities and Elderly Persons and has been introduced at a Duty Free rate.

This change supports improved access to mobility assistance equipment while reducing import costs for qualifying products.

Smart Glasses Added to the Tariff Schedule

As wearable technology continues to evolve, the tariff schedule now includes a specific classification for smart glasses.

Tariff code 8517.6210 has been added for Smart Glasses with a duty rate of 10%.

Importers previously classifying these products under broader technology categories should review future entries to ensure proper classification.

Updates to Disposable Undergarment Classifications

Changes have also been made to Chapter 96 regarding disposable undergarments and sanitary products.

The description for tariff code 9619.0030 has been changed from "Other Disposable Under Garments" to "Masculine Sanitary Pads".

A new tariff code, 9619.0040, has been introduced for "Other Disposable Under Garments", which remains Duty Free.

New Armed Forces Duty-Free Concession

The amendment also introduces a new concession under Heading 98.70 for approved armed forces organizations.

The concession allows duty-free importation of specified tactical equipment, including anti-riot shields, tactical gloves, tactical belts, tactical boots, bulletproof vest plates, and police batons, subject to approval by the Minister. A new tariff code, 9870.0000, has been created to facilitate these imports.

Summary

The 2026 tariff amendments introduce several meaningful reductions in duty rates, particularly for food products, household goods, wigs, and accessibility equipment.

As with all duty rate changes, Importable will be updated to reflect the latest updates when they take effect.
